Questionnaire Analysis

Asking for the age and gender of the participants allows me to identify a clear target audience.

As the majority of responses to this question is YouTube, this is where the official video will be released. The song is also available on Soundcload.

As the people who watch music videos watch on YouTube this will be the main site where the official video will be released.

Showing the artist/band in music videos has become more popular, it is the most common thing looked for in a music video. The artist of the song will constantly be featured in the music video.

Music Video Analysis - Katy Perry Unconditionally

Katy Perry – Unconditionally
Music is playing throughout the video, no other sound effects added.

The music video begins with multiple fades in showing the dancers hand movements in time to the music. This close up shows two of the characters dancing.

You then see the artist Katy Perry as the camera tilts up to a mid-shot. The artist is wearing a white dress, white connotes purity and innocence. This links in with the white, snowy, delicate scenery. The actions of the artist make her seem graceful. The snow falling contributes to the feel of innocence and purity that Katy Perry is conveying.

Although the majority of the music video is eye level the camera moves upwards to a high angle. This angle shows the whole setting, the dancers and the artist. The setting in this section of the music video is extravagant with props including large chandeliers and a big bed. The dancers circle around the artist showing that she is the centre of the video.
An effect added to this music video that has been multiply used is slow motion. The owl flying that changes from normal speed to slow motion suggests wisdom, grace and elegance.

The clothing and the hairstyle in this music video are compiled from a range of different styles from different time periods, including the 19th century and the 30's.

Another special effect that has been added to the music video is the fire elements. Also the exploding car and flying glass and flowers. The fire suggest a burning passion between lovers, this links into the meaning of the song. The flowers suggests a delicate type of love.
Although the most common shot type in this music video is a close up, long shots have also been used. A long shot shows the audience the characters and the setting. The artist stands out from the other characters in the shot because of the clothing worn. The white pure dress is more prominent than the darker clothing worn.
Extreme close ups of people's hands and shoulders showing the intimacy and conveying emotion.

Close ups have been predominantly used in this music video.  Close ups clearly show the artists facial expressions showing they are the main character.
The shallow depth of field hides the detail of the dancers in the background. The shallow depth of field draws the audience’s attention towards the artist.
The end shot of the music video is from a high angle zooming out and fading to black. The flowers placed on the undamaged car in the snowy scenery show all of the different elements shown throughout the music video together.

Music Video Analysis - Alex G #LittleMissPerfect

Alex G - #LittleMissPerfect
Both music and sound effects have been used in this music video.

The establishing shot shows the artist Alex G, after zooming out from the title of the song. The boot of a car opens to reveal the artist.
The most common shot type used in this music video is the mid shot. This shows the audience more detail, such as facial expressions of the artist. The mid shot allows room for hand gestures and other movement. The mid shot allows the viewer to see the background. The prop used, the rope, emphasises the fact that the artist has been kidnapped.
Close ups were also used in this video. The close ups clearly show the expressions of the artist and the mannequin. This editing for this section of the video is fast paced compared with the slower pace from the rest of the video; this goes with the sound effects added.
Sound effects have been added to the music video, such as 'ding' and camera shutter. This makes the video seem more comical.

This music video has a comical style shown by the use of the mannequin and weight landing on the cake. The setting for this scene is in the style of the 50’s. This theme is continued throughout the video.

Text has been added throughout the music video. These introduce the song, the time line, show the messages and make the video more comical.
The camera has been placed at a low angle, this makes the artist seem powerful and dominant. A split screen is one of the techniques used on this music video. This allows the audience to see multiple images at one time.

Over the shoulder shots have been multiply used in this music video. Used during conversations and to hide the identity of the person.
The overall theme for the music video is in the style of the 50's. This is shown by the clothing worn and the hairstyle of the artist and the props, such as the television. Also the setting of the diner and the kitchen.
Other effects added to this video is making sections black and white in the style of an old film. The white background used in these sections draws the focus onto the characters. This is added to by the black frame produced by the effects added to make the video seem older.
